Salt & A Battery

Is there anything cool that you can do with salt and a battery?

Because "Salt & A Battery" would be a really cool title for a blog post describing said unsaid thing.

Particularly if that thing resulted in injury.

I'm just sayin'.

Knowing the internet, I'm sure there is some fetish out there that focuses on salt and batteries. I didn't investigate, there are things even I don't know want to see.

I am not a chemistry guy by any means whatsoever, but I do know salt has some interesting electrical properties. We made a battery out of lead and a certain kind of salt (for example: http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=1&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.tricklife.com%2Fview.php%3Fid%3D1094&ei=N9vXR_LoEYGuigHl-YyGAg&usg=AFQjCNH5QJB1KyOs2BhV7MkcvtVmGptIdA&sig2=vfYAw9u4LjCRKyO5wrXLfQ, http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=3&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.exo.net%2F~pauld%2Factivities%2FAlAirBattery%2Falairbattery.html&ei=N9vXR_LoEYGuigHl-YyGAg&usg=AFQjCNGnYl-4Pei1IKqscCOQsnAQgyUwwA&sig2=Gt8Gbtg5I9x9xSXqTNwNlQ, http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&ct=res&cd=5&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.miniscience.com%2Fprojects%2Fairbattery%2F&ei=N9vXR_LoEYGuigHl-YyGAg&usg=AFQjCNHfulZCjpoi9MFrHGNzG30TqjyUqg&sig2=yk8Gfu7wC_7_2PR47d2LiQ). Since a battery is essentially a capacitor that stores electrical potential, most cases involving injury would not be possible with a standard salt-water battery; maybe if you had many in a serial line (electrical potential increases linearly for each battery appended end to end). However, I do have first hand experience plugging said things into wall outlets, which can be quite fascinating. I highly recommend you recruit a volunteer to do the plugging, or use non-conductive gloves. And perhaps goggles. And maybe tie your hair back.

Now *that's* what I'm talkin' 'bout!

Since we are talking about possible injury, I just read that death row inmates Raplh Baze and Thomas Clyde Bowling Jr. filed a case that alleges the current method of implementing death (lethal injection) is cruel and inhumane. Hmm.... these are convicted murderers. I must assume that the method with which they used to deliver the bad news to their victims involved a much more gracious and gentler vehicle than drugs. Right?

What would happen if, once sentenced, you were taken out back and shot? What would happen to our system? Curious....
