Pre-de-herniation preparation

For the last three (working) days, I've been working a paint job with Dan and his dad. Good stuff. Good money. And I could be working most of today, too, but I felt like I needed a day at home to get my feet on the ground before they are forcibly removed from it tomorrow (when I go in for a double-hernia repair surgery).

Deb is helping me get my stuff together (as per usual). And Emma is playing with G.I. Joe. She took all his clothes off and then presented me with Naked Joe and a blue-ish hair scarf, proclaiming, "Here. Make him look like Jesus!"

I told her he wasn't going to look like Jesus no matter what I did, but she persisted until Naked Joe was wrapped, from shoulder to mid-thigh, in shimmering blue flowered polyester.

He does not look like Jesus.

Regardless, now she's running around the living room, singing:

Oh, Mighty God!
You've got flowers on your robe!
I know you made the springtime,
'cause you've got flowers on your robe.

Oh, Mighty God!
You've got flowers on your robe!
I don't know who put them there,
but they look mighty nifty!

I feel more prepared already, and it's only 10:30 AM.

I have got to buy these kids some decent music...

things i like

Today I went and worked a paint job with my friend Dan and his dad. Here are some things that it occurred to me I like about my current circumstances.

~ I like all the days being the same. Weekdays. Weekends. Doesn't matter to me. The only thing that changes is whether or not the kids are home from school.

~ I like boiling water to make coffee in the morning. I like drinking it from a travel mug. While wearing my work coat. In the cold clunkiness of my car on the way to a job.

~ I like missing my little studio, and my writing, and learning about stuff. Even though it hurts my brain.

~ I like setting a goal for the day and meeting it.

~ I like Dan. (And his dad.) It's been a long time since I've gotten to work with him, and I've really missed it.

~ I like coming home. And being home.

Unemployment (or self employment) is a lot of hard work. And it generally doesn't pay very well. But it did today. Here's to more of the same.
